The VM Player wasn't among the uninstallable options of the Windows programs. Well I ran in the same trouble.
I found version 12 of the product, Installed it and de-installed it immediately afterwards both using the downloaded installer. That solved the issue. Most likely updates from version 12 up to 15 left some residu behind, which was cleared using the proper removal procedures. Choose where you want to search below Search Search the Community.
